In the middle of the 1940's, American scientists invented the first computer. It could make 500 calculations every second. It was a surprising speed at that time. Since then the science of computer has been quickly developed in the United States and many other countries. Now, a computer system can finish billions of calculations a second.
Before the invention of computer, people used decimal, duodecimal and hexadecimal systems to count numbers. But none of them could be used in the computer system. Instead, binary system is used in computer. So, computer has its own language telling and counting numbers and remembering other information for us.
Now, personal computer is becoming more and more popular. It has entered many homes. It saves us much time and helps us finish a lot more work. It is really a wonder of modern science. Modern China needs it very much.

Most of the food that a gardener grows cannot all be eaten when it is harvested. Some of it can be used immediately. But, most of it will be kept for future use. Experts advise that care must be used to safely keep food.
Potatoes should be kept in a cool, dry place. In some countries, villagers dig underground rooms, called cellars, where they keep their potatoes, cassavas, and root vegetables. It is important that the cool room be kept dark. Light can cause potatoes to develop a poison called solanine.
Meats, fruits and vegetables can be dried and kept in cloth bags. The bags should be hung in a cool dry place. Hanging the bags in the air will keep animals and insects on the ground from damaging the food. Mold is likely to grow on dried food that is kept where the air contains a lot of water.
Fats and oils should be kept in a cool place in covered containers. The containers should not let light enter. They should be made of dark glass, or fired clay. Containers made of iron or copper will ruin the fats and oils so they cannot be used. If possible, heat the fat or oil to remove any water that would cause mold to grow.
Fresh bread can be kept for later use if it is cooled quickly after it is baked. Then, it should be covered completely with a clean cloth or paper, Fresh bread can be kept in a clean tin container. In hot weather when the air contains a lot of water, the tin container should not be closed too tightly. This could cause mold to grow on the bread.

Guided Writing:
My schoolmates have quite different opinions about homework. Some of them think that they have too much homework, which always keeps them working late into the night and makes them have no time to take exercise. As a result, their health fails. Some other students think that more homework is quite necessary because they are struggling for higher education.
But I believe neither. I think we high school students should have a suitable amount of homework to do, neither too much nor too little, neither too difficult nor too easy. That will help to improve our understanding of the lessons with no harm to our health. However, what's more important is that whether we are careful or not while doing out homework will actually decide the efficiency of the homework.
